The closest comparison is probably the live event that brought the original version of Fortnite to a close back in October 2019. That event surprised players with a black hole that sucked up the entire Fortnite island, effectively rendering the game unplayable for two days before Fortnite Chapter 2 began. As you've probably seen in the marketing material, Spider-Man is the star of Fortnite chapter 3. It's surprising the web-slinger hasn't been featured in the game yet, but what better way to kick off a season than with one of the most iconic heroes of all time?

And since Epic Games wants you to spend money, it's a pretty brilliant move to tie Spider-Man to the battle pass. The thing is, Spider-Man is locked to page nine of the battle pass, requiring you to reach level 80, which will take a while. Spider-Man can swing around the map, and based on the footage we've seen so far, it looks surprisingly … amazing.

Has Fortnite Chapter 2 Season 3 Started After weeks of leaks and teases, Fortnite chapter 3 is finally here. Referred to as Fortnite Chapter 3 Flipped, this new update has a substantial amount of changes, not just in terms of gameplay, but also aesthetically and narratively. With it being a new chapter, there's a lot to dive into, so even if you're a veteran player, there's a lot to learn when you start playing this time around. While the game is fundamentally the same, there's enough here to keep things fresh, especially with the implementation of a fan-favorite Marvel hero. We're all eager to jump back into the ever-changing world of Fortnite, especially considering this time it's not just a new season, but a whole new chapter.

So, here's everything you need to know surrounding Fortnite Chapter 3 Season 1, including the expected start time and date. Speculation is that the live event will show the entire island being gulped by a gigantic black hole while loopers have escaped into a different reality. The downtime will begin right after the live event ends and will continue to exist for the next three days. As mentioned above, Fortnite Chapter 2 Season 8 is expected to end on December 4, which will be followed by an end-of-season live event.

In normal circumstances, the new season would've commenced the following day itself. Fortnite Chapter 3 Season 1 is finally here, and as you'd expect there are plenty of big changes being introduced for the fresh chapter. There's a whole new map to learn, some updated mechanics to get to grips with, and even a new type of Victory Royale to earn if you manage to be the last Fortnite player standing.

While you're waiting for the new Fortnite season to start, take the time to check out some of the other great battle royale games on PC – there's a lot of excellent alternates, you know. The Fortnite Chapter 2 finale event, called The End, took place on Saturday with players seeing the entire island flipped over. Developer Epic Games took the game offline following the event leaving players waiting to see what happens in Chapter 3. Before the event, data-miners stated that there will be downtime similar to what we saw with the black hole event that came after the end of chapter 1. A week before the event was revealed, chapter 2 season 8 was scheduled to end on Monday, December 6th which meant Chapter 3 will release on Tuesday, December 7th 2021. In the mean time between the live event and the official start of Season 3, there will likely be some sort of map change.

We've seen in previous seasons how a live event has resulted in a minor map change for the in-between time. Such as when the robot took down the monster and left behind a skeleton on the map. This is two days after the Fortnite live event that takes place on Monday, June 15. Epic Games are celebrating the Holidays by including the Winterfest event, where Fortnite players can complete festive challenges to earn free rewards and XP.

Since the beginning of Fortnite Chapter 2, the length of the seasons has become an angry subject. Previously accustomed to seasons lasting around 70 days, players had to be patient with the last two episodes of the battle royale — lasting 128 and 118 days respectively. Of course, there are no guarantees when it comes toFortnite following this pattern. You might recall that, at the end of Season 10 in 2019, the game went offline for several days before revealing a new map. There's always a chance a similar scenario could play out in between Season 5 and Season 6.

One new feature this time around is the implementation of the coveted crown. If you place "highly enough" in a battle royale match, you'll start the next one with a crown on your head, indicating that you're a good player. You'll need to place within the top four in Solos, top two in Duos, and first place in Trios and Squads to earn a crown.

While this is a great way to earn some bragging rights, it's also a target for other players, as the crown shines and makes you stand out. If you win a match while wearing a crown, you earn an exclusive emote. As always, XP is the name of the game, and during chapter 3, you'll now be able to earn experience as part of the creative mode, as well as the standard battle royale. This will give players much more freedom and incentive to play how they want without feeling like they're locked to a specific mode.

One of the most noticeable changes during chapter 3, at least aesthetically, is that much of the map is now covered in snow. This, of course, makes sense since it's wintertime in real life. You'll even find bushes with Christmas lights on them that will presumably be around for the duration of season 1. Interestingly, the majority of the island is filled with snow, overshadowing the smaller desert and grassy biomes on the outskirts of the map.

Expect various weather types, including tornadoes and even lighting throughout the duration of the chapter. Beyond visual changes, the new chapter 3 map has structural alterations, too. Every time a new season begins, the game's map changes slightly and new characters, cosmetic items and more are released to players. With another epic live event officially in the books, it's a wrap on Chapter 2. Fans have been left floating at sea, staring at the new Island from a distance wondering "what time is Fortnite Chapter 3 actually going to release? Epic has announced that downtime for Chapter 2, Season 3 will begin at 2 AM ET on June 17 .

It's unclear how long it will last or how big the update will be, but you should expect for servers to be down for a period of time as Epic readies all of the new content. There has been some unexpected extra Season 2 content to keep you busy in the meantime, as well as the Doomsday event that will have major implications for Season 3 itself. A variety of teaser images have also been shared online that surely tease some of what's to come, and we've compiled those below.

As if the current submerged state of the Battle Royale map wasn't enough of an indication, the Fortnite Season 3 Battle Pass will almost assuredly feature some sort of nautical or aquatic theme. This much was gathered from teaser images datamined as far back as late April. The graphics have yet to be used or seen in game, but they feature Meowscles wearing arm floaties, Peely about to be eaten by a shark and a building kept afloat by a giant lifesaver. Provided these leaks are indeed an indicator of what Fortnite fanscan expect to see tomorrow, it looks like Season 2's Agents may return alongside water-based threats and floating POIs. According to a tweet from the official Fortnite Status Twitter account, Fortnite Season 3 is expected to go live after a period of downtime that begins at 2 a.m.
